Foundation Year Entry Requirements
Foundation Years are available to students who don’t meet the academic requirements for entry directly onto year 1 of a Bachelor degree.
Undergraduate Entry Requirements
English Qualifications
Proficiency in English is essential for Undergraduate study. The University of South Wales recognises the following English language qualifications:
- A C, C6, 6 or credit pass grade in English at SSCE/NECO/WACE level
- IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum 5.5 in each band)
- Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements as we offer a range of English Language Courses to prepare you for academic studies.
Academic Qualifications
- Students who have the Senior School Certificate with five or more B3 grades can be considered for direct undergraduate entry
- Students who have the Nigerian Certificate of Education Diploma can be considered for undergraduate degree programmes
- Students with a National Diploma can be considered for undergraduate degree programmes
- Successful completion of a recognised foundation programme such as Bridge House Foundation/Northern Consortium Foundation/Global Education Foundation/Multi-plan Foundation can be accepted for entry to the appropriate 1st year degree programme
- Students with ‘A’ levels will be considered for direct admission to undergraduate degree programmes. Please refer to our course pages for detailed entry requirements
- Students who do not meet the entry requirements will be considered for a Foundation year
- Students with a Higher National Diploma or Polytechnic diplomas can be considered for advanced entry onto certain undergraduate degree programmes
Postgraduate Entry Requirements
English Qualifications
Proficiency in English is essential for Postgraduate study. The University of South Wales recognises the following English language qualifications:
- A C, C6, 6 or credit pass grade in English at SSCE/NECO/WAEC level
- IELTS with an overall score of 6.0 with at least a 5.5 in each component. Please note that some courses may require a higher level of English language proficiency than the University’s standard requirements. Please see the course page for further information.
- Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements as we offer a range of English Language Courses to prepare you for academic studies.
Academic Qualifications
- Students with an undergraduate degree with second class or better will be considered for direct entry onto a postgraduate programme
- Applicants with a Masters degree may be considered for entry to Ph.D. studies if the student also has a suitable research proposal
